A residential Bangkok side street in early evening, with low shophouses and a food cart on one side and a glass condominium tower behind them.

A short term rental Bangkok 1 month stay sits in an awkward gap. It is too long for a hotel room to stay tolerable, and too short to learn a city of this size by trial and error. Whichever area you pick on day one is the area you live in for all thirty days.

So the useful question is not which building. It is which part of central Bangkok you want to walk around on a Tuesday evening. This guide goes area by area, with the entry price for a furnished month in each and the station you would genuinely use. Every one of them can be browsed by the month.

What one month changes about the choice

Over a year, a bad commute is a reason to move. Over a month, it is simply your month. There is no time to absorb a forty-minute walk to the station in the heat, or to discover that the nearest food is a taxi ride away. The small things move to the front of the list.

The other thing a single month changes is how little the difference between areas costs you. Moving up from the cheapest district to the most central one is a few thousand baht over thirty days, not a year-long commitment. If a month in the middle of town is what you came for, it is worth paying for.

Asoke and central Sukhumvit: shortest commute, most noise

Asoke is where the two rail systems cross, so it is the easiest place in the city to reach anything else from. If your month involves meetings in different districts, or a co-working space you have not chosen yet, this is the safe answer. A serviced studio such as the 43 sqm unit by MRT Queen Sirikit starts at ฿72,500 a month.

The trade is noise and crowds. Sukhumvit Road itself is busy at every hour, and the sois running north from it vary block by block. Quieter pockets exist a little further out: Sukhumvit 71 studios from ฿52,900, or Sukhumvit 48 serviced duplexes from ฿56,700 near BTS On Nut.

Check which line serves you before you commit. The BTS Skytrain network map and the MRT map are worth five minutes; a flat on the wrong line can add half an hour each way to a trip you will make daily.

Thonglor and Ekkamai: the month you eat your way through

Thonglor is the district people picture when they imagine a month in Bangkok as a resident rather than a visitor: coffee places, small restaurants, wine bars, and a pace that makes no particular effort to include you until you show up twice. Entry is ฿51,700 for a 32 sqm high-rise studio, about 1.4 km from BTS Thong Lo.

That distance matters. Thonglor is one long soi, and the far end is served by motorbike taxis rather than the train. If you want to walk to the station, the serviced flats 440 to 750 m from BTS Thong Lo start at ฿94,500 for a one-bedroom with a balcony, and a 45 sqm executive studio is ฿97,750.

Ekkamai next door is calmer and cheaper. A 49 sqm serviced studio is ฿61,700, a 94 sqm serviced flat ฿88,200, and three of the pet-friendly homes in our list sit here. All of them are about 550 to 750 m from a station.

Lumpini and Sathon: green space and early nights

If you run, or you have a month of work to get through and want to sleep, look west. Lumpini puts you beside the park, which is the only place in central Bangkok where you can do a few kilometres without crossing a road. A 55 sqm one-bedroom is ฿85,700 a month, 700 m from BTS Sala Daeng.

Sathon is the business district equivalent: banks, embassies, quiet residential sois behind the main road, and less to do at eleven at night. A one-bedroom serviced flat is ฿88,200 and a pet-friendly one-bedroom ฿78,100. Space is unusually good value here, with 140 sqm two and three-bedroom flats at ฿132,300.

Ask yourself what you will do at seven in the evening, every evening, for thirty days. That answer picks the area better than any list of amenities.

Rama 4, On Nut and Rama 9: the cheapest full month

The lowest entry price we let for a month is a furnished studio on Rama 4 with housekeeping at ฿46,600. The Rama 4 homes share a location roughly 900 m from BTS Phra Khanong, and they are larger than the price suggests: 70 sqm one-bedrooms from ฿65,500, a 120 sqm two-bedroom at ฿107,100.

On Nut trades size for a shorter walk. A 38 sqm one-bedroom is ฿54,200, a serviced studio ฿56,700 and a two-bedroom ฿60,500, most of them 350 m from the BTS. It is a working Thai neighbourhood with a market, cheap food and a big supermarket, and it is six stops from Asoke.

Rama 9 is the one to think twice about for a single month. It is MRT-only, so if the places you need are on the BTS you will change trains constantly. Prices start at ฿75,600 for a 52 sqm studio loft and the flats are generous, but the connection suits a longer stay better than a short one.

Chit Lom and central Bangkok: everything within a covered walk

The Chit Lom and Phloen Chit stretch is the shopping and hotel core, joined by a raised walkway that keeps you out of the rain and the traffic. For a month in the wet season, that walkway is a genuine argument: the Thai Meteorological Department puts the rainy season from roughly mid-May to mid-October, and an afternoon downpour will strand you otherwise.

Entry for the Central Bangkok group is ฿66,800 for an 80 sqm serviced two-bedroom, 200 m from BTS Thong Lo. Around Chit Lom itself, a 72 sqm one-bedroom is ฿90,600, a 45 sqm studio ฿89,000 and a 100 sqm two-bedroom ฿114,700, all within 460 m of the station. There are 27 homes in this group, the second-largest choice we have.

Narrowing it to one flat

Once the area is settled, a month-long search is short work. Sort by the things that cannot be changed after you arrive, and ignore the rest.

If the month might turn into three, read what a single month actually costs and the longer comparison of where to live in Bangkok before you sign. People who arrive for thirty days and stay for six usually wish they had chosen for the longer version from the start.

Booking a single month

A short term monthly rental in Bangkok works differently from a nightly booking. The rent is quoted for one calendar month, the minimum stay is one calendar month, and no platform or booking fee is added. What you see against the listing is what the month costs.

Nine of the ten areas above have something available under ฿100,000 a month, and four start under ฿60,000. Pick the two districts that match how you want to spend your evenings, then compare the actual flats in each. Thirty days is not long enough to fix a bad choice, and it is long enough to enjoy a good one.

Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum stay for a short term rental in Bangkok?

One calendar month. Our homes are let by the month, not by the night, so the rent covers a full calendar month and there is no platform or booking fee on top.

How much does one month in Bangkok cost?

The cheapest furnished month we let is ฿46,600, a serviced studio with housekeeping on Rama 4. Sukhumvit starts at ฿52,900, Thonglor at ฿51,700, On Nut at ฿54,200 and Lumpini, the most expensive area, at ฿85,700.

Which area is best for a first month in Bangkok?

Asoke, if you do not yet know where you will need to be. Two rail lines cross there, so nothing in central Bangkok is more than a short ride away. Entry is ฿72,500 for a serviced studio.

Are the flats furnished for a one-month stay?

Yes. Every home is furnished, with Wi-Fi in place, and many are serviced, which adds housekeeping and linen changes. The listing states which applies, along with the size and the walking distance to the nearest station.

Is a short term monthly rental in Bangkok cheaper than a hotel?

For thirty days, usually yes. The monthly rent already includes furniture, Wi-Fi and, in the serviced flats, housekeeping, and there is no nightly rate or booking fee. A hotel of comparable size and standard charges those separately, every night.

Do I need to be within walking distance of a BTS station?

For a one-month stay it helps a great deal, because you will not have a car or a scooter. Anything within about 500 m is a comfortable walk; at 1.4 km, as with the cheapest Thonglor studios, plan on motorbike taxis instead.
