A wide avenue in Bangkok's Rama 9 district in the late afternoon, with modern residential and office towers on both sides, an elevated expressway in the distance and traffic moving below.

If you searched "condo for rent Life Asoke Rama 9", you probably want a furnished flat near MRT Phra Ram 9 that you can rent by the month. None of our listings names Life Asoke Rama 9, so we cannot offer you a unit in that building. What we can offer is five furnished homes in the Rama 9 district, from ฿75,600 to ฿277,200 a month, each let by the calendar month with no platform or booking fees.

On our map the five homes sit in two places. Three are pinned within a few metres of each other, 550 to 600 metres from MRT Phra Ram 9. The other two share a single pin about two kilometres to the east, and one of them is titled as near Bangkok Hospital. The two spots differ by more than distance: the eastern pair costs a great deal less.

The five homes, cheapest first

3 BR, 123 m², 6 guests฿277,200Bills included up to ฿8,610 a monthMRT Phra Ram 9 550 m

The gap in the middle of the table is the thing to notice. The two-bedroom loft in the east costs ฿51,500 a month less than the one-bedroom by the station, and sleeps twice as many people. The three station-side homes list the MRT within 600 metres; the eastern pair list no station at all. Which of those matters more to you decides most of the choice.

Near MRT Phra Ram 9: three homes on one pin

The three homes by the station are a seven or eight-minute walk from MRT Phra Ram 9 and share the same package. Housekeeping comes three times a week with linen changed twice, each flat has a washer and dryer, a smart TV with cable and satellite channels, and a private balcony with city views, and residents use the building's gym, pool and lift. Water and electricity are included up to a monthly allowance that grows with the size of the flat.

Per square metre, the two-bedroom works out at about ฿2,030 a month and the three-bedroom at about ฿2,250. The one-bedroom's floor area is not listed, so ask us for it before you compare it with the others.

By the station, the second bedroom adds ฿31,500 a month. The third adds ฿94,500.

That makes the 90 m² two-bedroom the easiest of the three to justify. Two people sharing it pay ฿91,350 each, less than the one-bedroom costs one person, and each gets a bedroom with a bathroom. The three-bedroom is the only one of our Rama 9 homes that sleeps six.

Further east: the two lofts

The other two homes share a pin about two kilometres east of the station group. The 52 m² studio loft is on a high floor, with a queen bed, a private balcony over the skyline and a bathroom with a soaking bathtub. The kitchenette has a stovetop, microwave, fridge and coffee machine. At ฿75,600 it is our cheapest home in Rama 9, about ฿1,450 a square metre.

The two-bedroom loft is a duplex the listing describes as 74 m². It has a king-size master, a second bedroom with twin beds, a loft that works as a sitting area or an extra place to sleep, two full bathrooms, an open kitchen with a dining table and a private balcony. At ฿99,700 a month, that is about ฿1,350 a square metre, the lowest rate of the five.

Both lofts come with housekeeping three times a week, water and electricity included, and use of the building's pool and gym. Two things to weigh: a duplex means a staircase inside the flat, which matters with small children, and neither listing names a station, so ask us how you would reach the nearest MRT before you book.

What the rent covers, and where it stops

All five rents include water and electricity, but not in the same way. The three station-side homes include them up to a fixed allowance, and you pay for anything above it. The two lofts are listed with water and electricity included and no allowance stated. Central Bangkok's power comes from the Metropolitan Electricity Authority, and air conditioning is what moves the meter, so the allowance matters most in the hot months.

Getting around from Rama 9

Phra Ram 9 is on the MRT Blue Line. One stop on is Phetchaburi, which links to the Airport Rail Link at Makkasan. Two stops on is Sukhumvit, where you change to the BTS Skytrain at Asok. From the station-side homes, that puts the Sukhumvit Road offices and shops within a short train ride, with no change before Asok.

From the lofts, plan on a taxi or a motorbike taxi for the first leg, or ask us for the walking route. If you will commute every working day, walk it once at the hour you would actually leave before you sign.
