The Rama 9 district of Bangkok at dusk seen from a high balcony, with office towers along Ratchadaphisek Road and expressway traffic below.

An apartment for rent near MRT Rama 9 puts you on one railway line and one only. There is no BTS station within walking distance of Phra Ram 9, so almost everything about daily life here — your commute, your evenings out, your taxi bill — follows from the MRT Blue Line. That is the trade this address asks you to make, and for a certain kind of stay it is clearly the right one.

We let five furnished homes in Rama 9 by the calendar month, from ฿75,600 to ฿277,200. Three of them sit 550 to 600 metres from the station. The other two carry no station distance on their listing at all, which is worth knowing before you read a word of the descriptions.

The five homes, and what each one is

Rama 9 is one of our shorter lists, and it does not step up gently. Between the cheapest and the dearest there is a factor of three and a half, because the same five homes include a single studio and a 123 m² three-bedroom.

Our five Rama 9 homes, monthly rent, September 2026

Studio loft · 52 m²฿75,600High floor, balcony, soaking bathtubNo station distance listed

3 bedrooms · 123 m²฿277,200Sleeps six, a desk in every roomMRT Phra Ram 9 550 m

Notice the gap. There is nothing at all between ฿99,700 and ฿151,200, so Rama 9 does not really offer you a range — it offers you two decisions. Either a compact home under ฿100,000, or a family-sized one above ฿150,000.

One line, and what that line reaches

Phra Ram 9 sits on the MRT Blue Line, which is unusually useful for a single line: it runs in a long loop through the working parts of the city rather than straight out to a suburb. Fares, first and last trains and the current map are on the operator's route map, and it is worth ten minutes with it before you decide.

The cost is that the MRT and the BTS are separate systems with separate fares. If your working day happens on the Sukhumvit line — Asoke, Phrom Phong, Thong Lo, Ekkamai — you will change trains and pay twice, in both directions, every day. Find your office on the BTS network map before you commit to a month here, not after.

If your office, your school or your hospital is at the Rama 9 junction, this is the shortest commute in Bangkok. If it is anywhere on the BTS, it is one of the longest.

Two of the five are not a walk from the station

The cheapest way into the area is a 52 m² studio loft at ฿75,600 a month — a high-floor unit with a balcony, a soaking bathtub and a kitchenette, housekeeping three times a week, and water and electricity included outright rather than capped. What its listing does not carry is a station distance, so treat it as a car or taxi address and ask us to confirm the walk for your dates.

The second is a two-bedroom duplex with a loft at ฿99,700, sleeping four across a king bed, a twin and the loft itself. Its point is not rail at all — it is Bangkok Hospital. If you are in the city for treatment, or here with someone who is, walking to the appointment matters far more than walking to a train.

This is also why Bangkok walking distances are quoted in hundreds of metres rather than kilometres. Six hundred metres in December is a stroll; the same 600 metres in April, which the Thai Meteorological Department will happily show you, is a change of shirt. Anyone who tells you a kilometre is nothing has not done it at two in the afternoon.

What the rent already covers

All five homes are furnished and serviced to the same pattern: housekeeping three times a week, high-speed Wi-Fi, a washer and dryer in the unit, a smart TV, and use of the building's pool, gym, lift and free parking. On the three flats beside the MRT, linen is changed twice a week.

The real difference between those three is the utility cap, and it is the number most people forget to compare. Water and electricity are included up to a stated monthly ceiling, which rises with the size of the flat.

Above the ceiling you pay the metered rate, so the cap is effectively part of the rent — a flat with a low cap and heavy air conditioning is not the bargain it looks like. The minimum stay is one calendar month, and there are no platform or booking fees: the monthly figure you are quoted is the figure you pay.

Rama 9 against the cheaper areas

฿75,600 is not Bangkok's entry price, and it is fair to say so. Four of our areas start lower, and three of those are on the BTS rather than the MRT.

Where each area starts, furnished and by the month, September 2026
areafromnotestation
Rama 4฿46,6006 homes, cheapest of all our areasBTS Phra Khanong 900 m
On Nut฿54,2004 homes, all close to the stationBTS On Nut 350 m
Ekkamai฿61,7007 homes, the pet-friendly onesBTS Phra Khanong 750 m
Asoke฿72,50013 homes, BTS and MRT in one placeBTS Asok · MRT Sukhumvit
Rama 9฿75,6005 homes, generous floor spaceMRT Phra Ram 9 550 m

What Rama 9 gives back is space and a very specific junction. A 123 m² three-bedroom with a desk in every room is a different proposition from a studio four stops east, and if your office or your treatment is at the Rama 9 interchange, no BTS address will beat it on time.

Asoke is the honest comparison rather than On Nut. It starts ฿3,100 lower, has thirteen homes instead of five, and puts both networks under one roof — so unless Rama 9 is where you need to be, Asoke usually wins on connections alone.

Who should take Rama 9, and who should not

The order to do this in is the same everywhere in Bangkok: settle the line, then the building, then the flat. If you are not yet sure the MRT is your line, read our guide to choosing a long-term rental in Bangkok by rail line first, then come back. Send us your dates and how many of you there are, and we will tell you which of the five Rama 9 homes is actually free.

Frequently asked questions

How much is an apartment for rent near MRT Rama 9?

Our five furnished Rama 9 homes run from ฿75,600 a month for a 52 m² studio loft to ฿277,200 for a 123 m² three-bedroom. In between there is a two-bedroom loft duplex at ฿99,700, a one-bedroom at ฿151,200 and a 90 m² two-bedroom at ฿182,700. Every figure is the full monthly rent, with no platform or booking fee added.

Which Rama 9 homes are actually within walking distance of the MRT?

Three of the five. The 90 m² two-bedroom and the 123 m² three-bedroom are both 550 metres from MRT Phra Ram 9, and the one-bedroom is 600 metres. The studio loft and the loft duplex near Bangkok Hospital carry no station distance on their listings, so treat those two as car or taxi addresses unless we confirm otherwise.

Can I rent in Rama 9 for just one month?

Yes. The minimum stay is one calendar month, and the home comes furnished with Wi-Fi, housekeeping three times a week, a washer and dryer, and water and electricity included up to a stated cap. That said, for a first single month a BTS address is usually the easier introduction to the city.

Is Rama 9 a good area if I work on Sukhumvit?

Not especially. Phra Ram 9 is two stops from MRT Sukhumvit, where you cross to BTS Asok, but the MRT and BTS charge separate fares, so you pay and change twice a day. If your office is between Asoke and Ekkamai, look at Asoke, Sukhumvit or Thonglor instead.

Are there furnished apartments near Bangkok Hospital?

One in this group: a two-bedroom loft duplex at ฿99,700 a month, sleeping four across a king bed, a twin bed and the loft. It has two full bathrooms, an open kitchen, a private balcony, housekeeping three times a week with water and electricity included, and use of the building's pool, gym and free parking.

What does the monthly rent include in Rama 9?

Furniture, high-speed Wi-Fi, a smart TV, an in-unit washer and dryer, housekeeping three times a week, and the building's pool, gym, lift and free parking. Water and electricity are included up to ฿3,420 a month on the one-bedroom, ฿6,300 on the 90 m² two-bedroom and ฿8,610 on the three-bedroom, with the metered rate charged above that.
