An apartment for rent near On Nut BTS starts at ฿54,200 a month for 38 m² and a 350 m walk to the platform. No home in our inventory below that price is within 600 m of any station, which is the whole argument for the district in one line. It comes furnished, with electricity, water, Wi-Fi and housekeeping three times a week already inside the rate.
Everything here is let by the calendar month, minimum one month, with no platform or booking fee on top. What you are buying at On Nut is a short walk to the train in exchange for sitting five stops further out than Asok. That trade is obviously right for some people and obviously wrong for others, and what decides it is the morning commute rather than the rent. The full set is on our On Nut page.
On Nut is the ninth station east of Siam on the BTS Sukhumvit Line, and for years it was the end of that line, before the track was extended further out towards Bearing. The road beneath the track is wide, busy and full of food, and the sois running off the even-numbered side are where the serviced blocks sit.
We let four homes in On Nut itself and three more on Sukhumvit 48, which is a 600 m walk to the same station entrance. One of the four is closer to Bang Chak, the next station out, and is priced accordingly.
| Home | From | Character | Nearest station |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 BR · 38 m² | ฿54,200 | 2 guests, separate bedroom, balcony | BTS On Nut, 350 m |
| 2 BR · 56 m² | ฿60,500 | 4 guests, two bathrooms, workstation | BTS On Nut, 350 m |
| 3 BR · 72 m² duplex | ฿103,300 | 6 guests, three bathrooms, bathtub | BTS On Nut, 350 m |
| 1 BR duplex · 35 m² · Sukhumvit 48 | ฿56,700 | 2 guests, rain shower, patio for laundry | BTS On Nut, 600 m |
| 1 BR duplex · 45 m² · Sukhumvit 48 | ฿56,700 | 2 guests, concierge, patio | BTS On Nut, 600 m |
| 2 BR duplex · 78 m² · Sukhumvit 48 | ฿99,700 | 4 guests, two bathrooms, lounge access | BTS On Nut, 600 m |
| 1 BR loft · 35 m² | ฿56,700 | 2 guests, work area, soundproof glass | BTS Bang Chak, 550 m |
The spread is narrow, and that is the character of the district. The 38 m² one-bedroom has a proper separate bedroom with a queen bed, a balcony and a kitchenette with a stove, and it is honest about the detail most listings leave out: the washing machine is a coin-operated one on the ground floor, not in the flat. The 56 m² two-bedroom adds a second bedroom, a second bathroom and a small workstation for another ฿6,300 a month, which is the cheapest second bedroom anywhere in our inventory.
Above that the choice thins out quickly. ฿99,700 takes a 78 m² two-bedroom duplex on Sukhumvit 48 and ฿103,300 takes a 72 m² three-bedroom duplex with three bathrooms, which sleeps six. There is nothing between ฿60,500 and ฿99,700 at On Nut, so if your budget lands in that gap you will be choosing between a flat that is smaller than you want here, or the same money spent one or two stations closer to town.
There is no MRT station at On Nut, so the Skytrain is the journey. Fares and the current route map are published by BTS, and the stop counts from On Nut are short enough to memorise before you sign anything.
The honest cost is not the journey time, it is the standing. Trains reaching On Nut in the morning peak have already collected passengers from the stations further out, so between roughly eight and nine on a weekday you will often get on and stay on your feet to Asok. In the evening the same journey outbound is comfortable, because you are travelling with the emptying half of the train. Walk the station in the morning once before you commit, not at lunchtime.
The compensation is the street. On Nut has markets, a hypermarket beside the station, and food on the pavement at prices Thong Lo gave up ten years ago, so your weekly spending drops as well as your rent. For a wider comparison of the foreigner districts on commute, rent and noise, our guide to where to live in Bangkok sets them side by side.
Bangkok rent that includes utilities almost always includes them up to a limit, and at On Nut the limits are published. They are the number that separates two flats quoted at the same ฿56,700.
For one or two people, ฿3,000 is a workable allowance: a bedroom air conditioner overnight and a living room unit in the evening will usually stay inside it. You exceed it by cooling an empty flat all day. Anything above the allowance is billed at the published city tariff set by the Metropolitan Electricity Authority, so there is no mark-up to argue over. The 35 m² loft near Bang Chak is the clearest example of the type: soundproof glass, a dedicated work area, and the allowance written into the terms.
Ask one question of any Bangkok quote that says utilities included: included up to what? Two flats at the same rent can be ฿3,000 a month apart.
On Nut is not the absolute cheapest entry price we publish, and it is worth being exact about why. Two districts come in lower, and in both cases the cheap flat is further from a station than anything at On Nut.
| Area | From | Character | Nearest station |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rama 4 | ฿46,600 | 6 homes, cheapest entry, longest walk | BTS Phra Khanong, 900 m |
| Thonglor | ฿51,700 | 29 homes, cheap line is 1.4 km out | BTS Thong Lo, 1.4 km |
| Sukhumvit | ฿52,900 | 30 homes, cheap line has no station listed | Sukhumvit 71 |
| On Nut | ฿54,200 | 4 homes, cheapest short walk we let | BTS On Nut, 350 m |
| Ekkamai | ฿61,700 | 7 homes, 49 m² studio at the entry price | BTS Phra Khanong, 750 m |
| Asoke | ฿72,500 | 13 homes, BTS and MRT interchange | BTS Asok, 1.0 km |
Read the station column rather than the rent column. ฿46,600 at Rama 4 is a genuine saving if you are happy with a 900 m walk in April heat or August rain; ฿51,700 in Thonglor puts you 1.4 km from the platform, which is a motorbike taxi twice a day, every day. At On Nut the walk is 350 m, which is three or four minutes, and that is what the extra ฿7,600 a month over Rama 4 is actually buying.
Against the other direction the arithmetic is just as plain. The cheapest way into Asoke is ฿72,500, and the cheapest Ekkamai home is ฿61,700. If you work on Sukhumvit and your office is at Asok, you are paying somewhere between ฿7,500 and ฿18,000 a month for the privilege of removing five stops from your morning.
The practical order is this. Decide whether you commute in the peak, because that single answer settles the district. Then read the electricity allowance on the two or three flats you like, and compare like with like. Then walk from the building to the station entrance once, on a weekday morning, and see whether 350 m or 600 m feels the way it reads. All seven homes, with photographs, sizes, amenities and the monthly rate, are on the On Nut page, and the minimum stay on every one of them is a single calendar month.
From ฿54,200 a month for a furnished 38 m² one-bedroom 350 m from the station. A 56 m² two-bedroom is ฿60,500, a 78 m² two-bedroom duplex on Sukhumvit 48 is ฿99,700 and a 72 m² three-bedroom duplex is ฿103,300. Every rate is for a calendar month, and there is no platform or booking fee on top.
Three of the On Nut homes are 350 m from the station entrance, which is a walk of three or four minutes. The three Sukhumvit 48 homes are 600 m, so six or seven minutes. One further home sits 550 m from Bang Chak, the next station out, and is priced at ฿56,700.
It works well if you want a short walk to the Skytrain at the lowest rent we publish for that distance, and if you eat and shop locally. It works less well if you commute into Asok or Silom in the morning peak, because trains arrive at On Nut already carrying passengers from the stations further out, so you will often stand.
Asok is five stops, roughly twelve minutes on the BTS Sukhumvit Line. Siam is nine stops, usually under twenty minutes. Thong Lo is three stops and Phra Khanong is one. There is no MRT station at On Nut, so the Skytrain is the only train from here.
Yes, and on four of the homes the allowance is stated: ฿3,000 a month for electricity and ฿500 for water on the three smaller one-bedrooms, and ฿6,000 and ฿900 on the 78 m² two-bedroom. The On Nut one, two and three-bedrooms include electricity and water in the rate. Anything above an allowance is billed at the standard city tariff.
Yes. The minimum stay on all of them is one calendar month. They come furnished, with Wi-Fi, housekeeping three times a week and linen changes twice a week already arranged, so there is nothing to connect or set up in your own name.
