Apartments for rent in central Bangkok are spread more widely than the name suggests. We let 27 furnished homes by the month under that label, from ฿66,800 to ฿296,100, and they sit around six different stations: Chit Lom, Asok, Phrom Phong, Sala Daeng, National Stadium and Thong Lo. More than half are a short walk from BTS Chit Lom, but the cheapest is by Thong Lo and one of the best-connected is beside National Stadium.
So the useful question is not whether a flat is central, but which station it is near and where you need to get to every day. Below, the 27 homes are grouped by station, with what each group costs, what the rent covers where we know it, and the four suites on Soi Tonson that give the most floor space for the money.
Bangkok has no single centre. The shopping streets around Siam and Chit Lom, the offices of Silom and Sathon, and the stretch of Sukhumvit Road from Asok to Thong Lo all get called central, and our listings follow that loose use of the word. The table shows how our Central Bangkok homes break down, cheapest first within each group.
| Area | From | Character | Nearest station |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chit Lom, 15 homes | ฿89,000 | Studios to two-bedrooms, up to ฿296,100 | BTS Chit Lom 400–460 m |
| Asok, 3 homes | ฿81,900 | A studio, a one-bedroom and a two-bedroom penthouse | BTS Asok 500 m · MRT Sukhumvit 750 m |
| Phrom Phong, 4 homes | ฿81,900 | Serviced, three with breakfast | BTS Phrom Phong 950 m |
| Sala Daeng and Lumphini, 3 homes | ฿124,700 | Serviced, one to three bedrooms | MRT Lumphini 850 m · BTS Sala Daeng 1.1 km |
| National Stadium, 1 home | ฿88,200 | One-bedroom in the Siam area | BTS National Stadium 200 m |
| Thong Lo, 1 home | ฿66,800 | Two bedrooms, two bathrooms, 80 m² | BTS Thong Lo 200 m |
If you only want to see the homes that are central in the everyday sense, the shops and offices on foot, start with Chit Lom. If you work on Sukhumvit, the Asok, Phrom Phong and Thong Lo homes are filed under Central Bangkok too, and they are worth comparing with our Sukhumvit and Thonglor listings before you decide.
BTS Chit Lom sits over the Ratchaprasong junction, one stop east of Siam on the Sukhumvit Line. centralWorld is beside the station, Central Embassy is along Phloen Chit Road towards the next stop, and an elevated walkway runs from Chit Lom to Siam, so you can reach the shopping centres and the interchange without crossing a road at street level. All fifteen of our homes here are listed between 400 and 460 metres from the station.
Rents in this group run from ฿89,000 for a 45 m² studio to ฿296,100 for a two-bedroom. Most of the range sits in between: a 58 m² one-bedroom at ฿114,200, an 87 m² two-bedroom at ฿137,900, and one-bedrooms from ฿138,600 to ฿182,700. Several of the listings do not state a floor area, so ask for it before you compare them.
The last line is not a mistake, and it is the reason this guide exists.
Soi Tonson runs off Phloen Chit Road, a few minutes on foot from the main road and within a short walk of Lumpini Park. We let four suites in one building there, all listed 460 metres from BTS Chit Lom. They share a pool, a fitness room, a sauna, free parking and a 24-hour front desk, and each has in-room laundry, a separate living area and a fully equipped kitchen.
| Home | From | Character | Nearest station |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 BR, 72 m², 3 guests | ฿90,600 | King bed; bath and separate shower | BTS Chit Lom 460 m |
| 2 BR, 100 m², 5 guests | ฿114,700 | King bed and two singles; one bathroom | BTS Chit Lom 460 m |
| 2 BR, 110 m², 5 guests | ฿120,800 | Refitted in November 2023; super king bed; one bathroom | BTS Chit Lom 460 m |
| 2 BR, 125 m², 5 guests | ฿123,200 | Largest of the four; king bed and two singles; one bathroom | BTS Chit Lom 460 m |
The 125 m² two-bedroom on Soi Tonson costs ฿14,700 a month less than the 87 m² two-bedroom closer to the station and gives you 38 more square metres. The trade is the bathroom: each two-bedroom has a single bathroom for up to five guests. For a family, or a couple who want a spare room and a proper kitchen, that is usually worth it. For two people sharing as flatmates, one bathroom may not be.
Close to the station you pay for the address. On Soi Tonson you pay for floor space: about ฿990 a square metre, against ฿1,590 to ฿1,980 nearer Chit Lom.
Three of our Central Bangkok homes are 500 metres from BTS Asok and 750 metres from MRT Sukhumvit: a studio with a city view at ฿81,900, a one-bedroom with a skyline view at ฿94,500 and a two-bedroom penthouse at ฿126,000. Asok is where the Skytrain meets the MRT Blue Line, so these suit anyone who needs both lines.
Four more are serviced homes about 950 metres from BTS Phrom Phong, from ฿81,900 for a studio with breakfast to ฿110,900 for a two-bedroom. Nine hundred and fifty metres is a real walk in Bangkok heat, so check whether the building runs a shuttle before you rely on the train.
Our one home by BTS National Stadium is a 45 m² one-bedroom 200 metres from the station at ฿88,200 a month. National Stadium is one stop west of Siam on the Silom Line, so you are a single stop from the interchange. Water and electricity are included, housekeeping comes three times a week with linen changed twice, and the residence has a pool and a gym.
On the south side of the centre, three serviced homes sit 850 metres from MRT Lumphini and 1.1 km from BTS Sala Daeng: a one-bedroom and a two-bedroom at ฿124,700 each, and a three-bedroom at ฿224,300. These suit people working in Silom, Sathon or along Rama 4 Road more than people working on Sukhumvit.
The ฿66,800 that our Central Bangkok listings start from buys an 80 m² two-bedroom 200 metres from BTS Thong Lo. Each bedroom has its own bathroom, there is a large corner balcony, and up to four guests can stay. The rent includes water and an electricity allowance of ฿6,400 a month, housekeeping with a linen change three times a week, and a shuttle to nearby BTS stations. It is not central in the Chit Lom sense, being five stops east along Sukhumvit, but for two people sharing it is the lowest rent in this group by a wide margin.
Every group above is on the BTS Skytrain, and the Asok and Lumphini homes are also near the MRT Blue Line. Before you choose, match the station to your daily trip:
Walk from the flat to the station once at the hour you will actually commute. Four hundred metres along a shaded soi and four hundred metres across a six-lane junction are not the same walk.
Every home here is furnished and let by the calendar month, with a one-month minimum and no platform or booking fees. Ask us for the floor area where a listing does not show it, check what the rent includes for electricity, and ask which way the bedroom faces.
