If you searched for an apartment for rent rama 9, here is the short answer: we let five furnished homes there, from ฿75,600 to ฿277,200 a month, by the calendar month and with no platform or booking fees. What the price list does not tell you is how Rama 9 compares with the rest of the city. On our books it is not the cheap option many people expect, except at the bottom of the range.
This guide takes each of the five rents in turn and sets it beside what the same money gets you in our other areas. That way you can see what you are paying for when you choose Rama 9, and when you would do better a few stops away.
Sort our ten areas by the cheapest home in each, and Rama 9 comes eighth. Only Sathon and Lumpini start higher.
| Area | From | Character | Nearest station |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rama 4, 6 homes | ฿46,600 | A studio | BTS Phra Khanong 900 m |
| Thonglor, 29 homes | ฿51,700 | A 32 m² high-rise condo | BTS Thong Lo 1.4 km |
| Sukhumvit, 30 homes | ฿52,900 | 35 m² and 40 m² flats on Soi 71 | No station listed |
| On Nut, 4 homes | ฿54,200 | A 38 m² one-bedroom | BTS On Nut 350 m |
| Ekkamai, 7 homes | ฿61,700 | A 49 m² studio | BTS Phra Khanong 750 m |
| Central Bangkok, 27 homes | ฿66,800 | An 80 m² two-bedroom | BTS Thong Lo 200 m |
| Asoke, 13 homes | ฿72,500 | A 43 m² studio | BTS Asok 1000 m, MRT Queen Sirikit 1.0 km |
| Rama 9, 5 homes | ฿75,600 | A 52 m² studio loft | No station listed |
| Sathon, 8 homes | ฿78,100 | A pet-friendly one-bedroom | No station listed |
| Lumpini, 10 homes | ฿85,700 | A 55 m² one-bedroom | MRT Si Lom 500 m, BTS Sala Daeng 700 m |
The gap is real money. Rama 9's cheapest home costs ฿22,700 a month more than Sukhumvit's and ฿29,000 more than Rama 4's. And the three Rama 9 homes by the station start at ฿151,200, exactly double the cheapest one.
The five sit in two places about two kilometres apart. The two lofts share a building to the east, one of them listed near Bangkok Hospital, and neither listing gives a distance to a station. The other three share a tower 550 to 600 metres from MRT Phra Ram 9, on the Blue Line.
All five come with housekeeping three times a week, and every building has a pool and a gym.
At the bottom of the range is the 52 m² studio loft at ฿75,600. For exactly the same rent, our Rama 4 building lets a one-bedroom with a private jacuzzi, 900 metres from BTS Phra Khanong: a separate bedroom rather than one open room. For ฿3,100 less, a 43 m² studio in Asoke at ฿72,500 puts you a kilometre from both BTS Asok and MRT Queen Sirikit.
The loft's case is space and view. It is 9 m² larger than the Asoke studio, on a high floor, with a balcony and a soaking bath, and the bills are in the rent. What its listing lacks is a station distance, so if you will ride the train every day, ask us how you would reach one before you book.
The loft duplex suits a small family or two people sharing: 74 m², a king bedroom, a twin bedroom, two full bathrooms and a loft level that works as a den or extra sleeping space. Exactly the same rent takes a two-bedroom, two-bathroom flat on Sukhumvit Soi 48, 600 metres from BTS On Nut. For ฿3,600 more, ฿103,300 buys a three-bedroom with three bathrooms, 350 metres from the same station.
So at this price Rama 9 does not save you money against the Sukhumvit Line; it gives you a different address. If that address is the point, because you have regular appointments at Bangkok Hospital, this is the loft to look at.
In Rama 9, ฿151,200 a month buys a one-bedroom by the MRT. On Rama 4, the same rent buys a 180 m² three-bedroom.
The one-bedroom by MRT Phra Ram 9 is where the comparison turns. ฿151,200 is exactly what we charge for four quite different homes elsewhere:
| Home | From | Character | Nearest station |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 BR, 2 guests, Rama 9 | ฿151,200 | Housekeeping three times a week; water and electricity included up to ฿3,420 a month | MRT Phra Ram 9 600 m |
| 1 BR, 2 guests, centralWorld | ฿151,200 | Maid service three times a week; ฿3,500 electricity allowance, then ฿7.49 a unit | BTS Chit Lom 400 m |
The two cost the same and cover the bills in much the same way. The centralWorld flat is 200 metres closer to its station, and that station is on the Skytrain in the middle of the shopping district. The Rama 9 flat has a dedicated workspace and a dining table for four, and its station is on the Blue Line. Choose it because that is the line you need, not to save money.
The pattern holds at two bedrooms. Our 90 m² two-bedroom in Rama 9 and an 85 m² two-bedroom on Sukhumvit Soi 20 are both ฿182,700 a month. The Rama 9 flat is 5 m² larger and adds a separate toilet and a walk-in closet; the Soi 20 flat is 300 metres from BTS Phrom Phong.
At three bedrooms, Rama 9 is the dearer choice. Our 123 m² three-bedroom costs ฿277,200. A 128 m² three-bedroom on Sukhumvit, 150 metres from MRT Queen Sirikit, is ฿252,000: ฿25,200 a month less for 5 m² more. A 135 m² three-bedroom in Thonglor, 440 metres from BTS Thong Lo, is ฿218,500: ฿58,700 less for 12 m² more. Over six months, that second gap comes to ฿352,200.
What the Rama 9 three-bedroom does offer is written into the listing: water and electricity up to ฿8,610 a month, a work desk in every bedroom, a washer and dryer, and the Blue Line a seven- or eight-minute walk away.
For where it is, not for what it costs. Three reasons come up most:
Timetables, fares and route maps are on the MRT website run by BEM and, for the Skytrain at Asok, the BTS website. Our guide to living two stops from Asoke goes through that journey in more detail.
To see all five with photographs, browse our Rama 9 homes, choose the one that fits, and send us your dates and how many people are moving in. The minimum stay is one calendar month, and the rent is the price: there are no platform or booking fees on top.
Our five furnished Rama 9 homes run from ฿75,600 a month for a 52 m² studio loft to ฿277,200 for a 123 m² three-bedroom. The minimum stay is one calendar month, and there are no platform or booking fees on top.
Not on our books. Our cheapest Rama 9 home is ฿75,600 a month, against ฿52,900 on Sukhumvit. At ฿182,700, a two-bedroom costs the same in Rama 9 as on Sukhumvit Soi 20, where it is 300 metres from BTS Phrom Phong.
MRT Phra Ram 9, on the Blue Line. Three of our Rama 9 homes are 550 to 600 metres from it. The BTS Skytrain does not run through Rama 9; the nearest link is at Sukhumvit station for BTS Asok, two stops away.
Yes. The two lofts include water and electricity outright. The three homes by the station include them up to a set figure each month: ฿3,420 for the one-bedroom, ฿6,300 for the two-bedroom and ฿8,610 for the three-bedroom.
The two-bedroom loft duplex, at ฿99,700 a month, is listed near Bangkok Hospital. The studio loft, at ฿75,600, is in the same building.
